Mangomint alternatives for Canadian hair salons: the 2026 price check

Mangomint has a rare reputation in salon software: owners who use it mostly like it, the interface is consistently praised, and unlimited text and email reminders are simply included. It also serves Canada for real, with Canadian merchant onboarding documented in its own help centre. So why are Canadian salon owners searching for alternatives? Usually for two reasons the glowing reviews skip: the bill starts at $120 a month per location plus $10 per user, and the pricing page never says which dollar that is. For a two-chair salon in Winnipeg or Halifax, that combination deserves a closer look before signing.

This comparison runs on the blog of ViteUneCoupe, a free online booking system for hair salons that charges 0% commission, so you know where we stand. In exchange, every price below was checked in October 2026 on each vendor's own current page, we name the currency each vendor actually displays, we start by crediting what Mangomint genuinely does better than anyone (including us), and we say plainly when a cheaper tool means giving something up.

What Mangomint genuinely does well

The strengths are real, and several of them matter specifically to a Canadian salon:

  • It actually works in Canada. Unlike some US darlings, Mangomint onboards Canadian businesses: its help centre documents the merchant account requirements for Canadian customers, a federal Business Number (BN) or an NEQ for Québec businesses, checked in October 2026. If you have been burned by tools that turn out to be US-only at checkout, that is not Mangomint. (GlossGenius, by contrast, restricts its service to the fifty United States; our guide to GlossGenius alternatives for Canadian hair salons covers that dead end.)
  • Unlimited text and email appointment notifications are included at no additional cost. That comes from Mangomint's own pricing FAQ, checked in October 2026, and in Canada it is a bigger deal than in the US: most tools available here either meter texts or sell them back as add-ons.
  • No contracts, no booking commission, and a clean exit. Month to month, cancel anytime, free onboarding and data transfer in, and your data stays exportable on the way out.
  • No marketplace between you and your clients. Mangomint does not run a consumer booking marketplace, so it never positions itself as the owner of your client relationship.
  • The product itself. Express Booking, the calendar, the automations and the support are the reasons owners who can afford it rarely leave. None of the alternatives below claims to beat Mangomint on polish, and we will not pretend otherwise.

If budget were no object, this article would end here. It is not, so here is the invoice.

What Mangomint costs, and the currency question

Checked on Mangomint's pricing page in October 2026:

Item Price (currency not labelled on the page)
Base subscription $120/month per location
Each user $10/month
Phone line with calls and texting (add-on) $70/month per line
Marketing credits (add-on) From $30/month (3,500 credits) to $300/month (60,000 credits)
Payroll processing (add-on) $50/month + $8 per worker
Card processing 2.45% + 15¢ in person; 2.90% + 30¢ online

No commission on bookings, no contract, free trial, free data migration.

Now the part that matters at a Canadian address: nowhere on that pricing page does Mangomint say USD or CAD. Not next to the $120, not in the FAQ. Mangomint is a US company and the price is widely read as US dollars, which at recent exchange rates would push the real base cost well past $160 Canadian, but we are not going to assert a currency the vendor does not print. The honest advice is simpler: before you sign, ask in writing which currency you will be billed in and what your Canadian card will actually be charged. If the answer is US dollars, add the conversion and your bank's foreign transaction fee to every line of the table above. Our guide to the real cost of salon software in Canada walks through exactly that math.

Two more Canadian footnotes worth knowing before a demo call:

  • Payroll is not pan-Canadian. Mangomint's payroll add-on is available for customers in the United States, British Columbia and Ontario, per its own payroll documentation, checked in October 2026. A salon in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba or Atlantic Canada cannot count on it today; confirm the current list before you factor it in.
  • Taxes are on you to add. Whatever currency the subscription turns out to be in, GST/HST or provincial sales tax treatment of a foreign software bill is its own small headache; your bookkeeper will thank you for the written invoice.

As an illustration, and only an illustration: an owner plus three stylists, all needing logins, pays $120 + $30 = $150 a month in whichever dollar applies, roughly $1,800 a year before processing, add-ons, conversion or tax. For a busy six-chair salon in Toronto using the automations, memberships and front-desk depth, that can be money well spent. For a two-chair salon that needs online booking, reminders and client records, most of that premium goes unused.

Who Mangomint fits in Canada, and who is overpaying

Mangomint earns its price in salons that use the depth: several stylists with different schedules and permissions, a front desk living in the software all day, memberships, retail, rooms and resources to juggle. Spread $150 or $200 a month across six busy chairs and it is small against the time it saves. At that end of the market its honest rivals are the quote-only heavyweights; our guide to Phorest alternatives for Canadian hair salons covers that comparison.

Mangomint is likely the wrong size for:

  • Solo stylists and chair renters. The $120 base is per location, so one person pays $130 a month in an unconfirmed currency for a calendar they could run for a fraction of that, or for nothing. Our guide to booking apps for independent hair stylists in Canada covers the solo-sized field.
  • Small salons of one to three chairs whose real needs are online booking, automatic reminders and a client database. Every tool below covers that for $85 CAD a month or less, and two of them cover the booking core for $0.
  • Anyone who wants a Canadian invoice in Canadian dollars. Mangomint may or may not provide one; two of the alternatives below are Canadian companies that unambiguously do.

The alternatives at a glance

All prices checked in October 2026 on each vendor's own page. The currency column is exactly what each vendor displays, because this market mixes CAD, USD, euros and bare dollar signs with abandon.

Software Subscription Currency as displayed Commission on bookings Text reminders
Mangomint $120/month per location + $10/user Unlabelled "$" None Unlimited, included
ViteUneCoupe Free plan; Standard from 29 € excl. tax/month Euros, stated 0%, always None; reminders are email only
Square Appointments Free; Plus $35; Premium $85 per location/month CAD, stated on the Canadian page None Included, even on the free plan
salonMonster $30/month + $15 per extra staff, capped at $120 CAD, stated ("we bill Canadians in Canadian dollars") None Email and SMS reminders included
GoRendezVous Essential $59 + $20 per extra professional; Premium $69 + $25 Bare "$" (Montréal company; confirm CAD on your screen) 0% Unlimited email and SMS, Canadian mobiles included

Details below, starting with our own product so the bias stays on the table.

ViteUneCoupe: free, 0% commission, and honest about what it lacks

ViteUneCoupe's free plan gives a hair salon unlimited online bookings 24/7 with 0% commission, permanently: a personalized booking page in your salon's name, a service catalogue with durations and prices, per-stylist schedules and absences, a client database with visit history, and the calendar to run it all. It is a plan, not a trial: no card, no countdown. Canadian phone numbers in +1 format store normally, and the booking page exists in English and French, which matters for plenty of Canadian clienteles.

The Standard plan, from 29 € excluding tax per month with no commitment, adds automatic emails (booking confirmation, a reminder before the appointment, a thank-you after) and calendar sync in ICS format with Google, Apple or Outlook calendars. Anti no-show protection by bank card hold is coming soon in a Standard + Anti No-Show plan at 49 € excluding tax per month.

Against Mangomint, the gaps are real and we will name them ourselves. Mangomint includes unlimited texts; ViteUneCoupe sends no text messages on any plan, reminders are email only, and if texts are non-negotiable for your clientele we are the wrong tool. Our guide to appointment reminders for Canadian hair salons weighs honestly when email is enough. The subscription is billed in euros, not Canadian dollars, so the exact CAD amount moves with the exchange rate; at least the currency is printed, which is more than some vendors on this page manage. And ViteUneCoupe handles no payments at all: no card on file, no deposits, no Interac, no point of sale, so your existing terminal stays exactly as it is. For the payments side of the shortlist, our guide to card payment processing for Canadian hair salons covers the fees that actually move the total.

Who is it for? The salon whose Mangomint hesitation is purely the invoice: if what you would actually use is the booking page, the calendar and the client records, you get those for $0, and email reminders for 29 € a month, instead of $130-plus in a currency to be confirmed.

Square Appointments: real Canadian prices on the page

Square is the rare international vendor that publishes an actual Canadian grid. Checked on squareup.com/ca in October 2026: a Free plan at $0 with unlimited calendars and automatic text and email reminders included, then Plus at $35 and Premium at $85 CAD per location per month, no long-term commitment. Processing at published Canadian rates: 2.5% for in-person card payments, 0.75% + 7¢ per Interac debit transaction, 2.8% + 30¢ online, 3.3% + 15¢ keyed.

Against Mangomint: the free tier does for $0 much of what a small salon was considering Mangomint for, texts included, and even Premium at $85 CAD undercuts Mangomint's unconverted base. The trade-off is that Square is a payments company first: the booking layer is generalist rather than hair-specific, and choosing it means adopting the Square payment ecosystem. The full picture, including what the free plan withholds, is in our guide to Square Appointments alternatives for Canadian hair salons.

Who is it for? Salons that want booking, payments and Interac in one account with transparent CAD pricing, and accept a generalist tool.

salonMonster: the Canadian hair-specific flat rate

salonMonster is a small British Columbia company that has built salon software since 2010 and says plainly what Mangomint's pricing page does not: "we bill Canadians in Canadian dollars." Checked on salonmonster.com in October 2026: $30 CAD a month for a single provider, $15 per additional staff member, capped at $120 a month for seven or more, with email and SMS reminders and booking confirmations included on all plans, no contract, no booking commission, free migration of your client list and a 14-day trial without a card. Client data is stored in Canada.

Against Mangomint: a four-person salon pays $75 CAD instead of $150 in a currency to be confirmed, keeps included SMS reminders, and gets a vendor whose roadmap is hair appointments rather than spa suites. The honest trade-off: salonMonster is a team of a handful of people, the design is plainer, and the operational depth (automations, memberships, resource management) is nowhere near Mangomint's. More Canadian-built options, and what "Canadian data residency" really buys you, are in our guide to Canadian-made salon booking software.

Who is it for? The Canadian salon that wants a CAD invoice, included texts and a hair-focused tool, and does not need enterprise features.

GoRendezVous: bilingual, Canadian, unlimited texts

GoRendezVous is a Montréal company with published pricing, checked on gorendezvous.com in October 2026: Essential at $59 a month plus $20 per additional professional, Premium at $69 plus $25, a 14-day trial, month to month. The standout line for this comparison: unlimited email and SMS reminders, with mobile numbers within Canada included, which matches Mangomint's strongest card at half the base price. The pricing page shows a bare dollar sign and has displayed US dollars to visitors outside Canada, so, same rule as everywhere in this article: confirm the CAD amount on your own screen. Online payments run through Stripe at 2.9% + 30¢ plus a $0.25 GoRendezVous platform fee per transaction, per its help centre, checked in October 2026.

The honest reserves: GoRendezVous presents itself first as a tool for health professionals (physiotherapists, massage therapists), so test whether a colour-and-cut workflow with processing times fits before moving your book; and a four-professional salon pays $119 or more a month, which is no longer impulse pricing. The genuinely bilingual interface, on the salon side and the client side, is a real advantage for francophone clienteles. If your salon is in Québec and you work in French, see our French guide to GoRendezVous alternatives for hairdressers, which is in French.

Who is it for? The Canadian salon, especially a bilingual one, that wants unlimited Canadian texts from a Canadian company and will verify the fit for hair workflows.

How to choose by salon profile

  • Solo stylist or chair renter: start at $0. ViteUneCoupe's free plan if you want unlimited direct bookings with no commission and keep your current payment setup; Square's free plan if you want texts and integrated payments in one account. Paying $130 a month solo, in a currency you had to ask about, needs a specific justification.
  • Two to four chairs, core needs only: salonMonster ($45 to $75 CAD with texts), GoRendezVous ($79-plus with unlimited texts), Square Plus ($35 CAD plus processing) or ViteUneCoupe (free, or 29 € with email reminders) all cover booking, reminders and client records for far less than Mangomint's base.
  • Five or more chairs with a real front desk, retail and memberships: this is Mangomint's home turf and it is fair to say it wins it, with the currency question as your one piece of homework. Get the currency, the add-ons and the total in writing, then compare against the quote-only heavyweights.
  • Whatever you pick, test the exit before the entrance: confirm in writing that clients, appointment history and notes export freely. Mangomint, to its credit, states that your data remains portable. Our guide to switching salon booking software in Canada walks the migration step by step.

The wider Canadian market, including Fresha, Booksy and Vagaro, is mapped in our pillar guide to the best hair salon booking software in Canada. And if your salon is in the US rather than Canada, the same exercise with US vendors and US prices is in our Mangomint alternatives guide for US hair salons.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Mangomint cost in Canada?

Mangomint's pricing page, checked in October 2026, shows $120 per month per location plus $10 per user, with no currency label anywhere on the page. Mangomint is a US company and the figure is widely read as US dollars, but the honest answer is: ask Mangomint in writing which currency a Canadian salon is billed in, and what your card will be charged after conversion and any foreign transaction fee.

Does Mangomint work for hair salons in Canada?

Yes. Mangomint's own help centre documents merchant onboarding for Canadian customers (a federal Business Number, or an NEQ for Québec businesses), checked in October 2026. Two limits to know: the payroll add-on covers only the US, British Columbia and Ontario, and the published pricing carries no currency label, so confirm your billing currency before signing.

Does Mangomint have a free plan?

No. Mangomint offers a free trial, then paid subscriptions from $120 a month per location. For a permanently free plan, checked in October 2026: Square Appointments publishes a free Canadian tier with text reminders included, and ViteUneCoupe's free plan offers unlimited online bookings with 0% commission, with reminders available by email on its paid plan.

Which Mangomint alternatives bill in Canadian dollars?

Among the tools in this comparison, checked in October 2026: Square Appointments publishes CAD prices ($0, $35, $85 per location), and salonMonster states outright that it bills Canadians in Canadian dollars ($30 CAD base). GoRendezVous is a Montréal company whose page shows a bare dollar sign, so confirm CAD on your screen. ViteUneCoupe bills in euros and says so. Mangomint's currency is unlabelled: ask.

Do any Mangomint alternatives include unlimited text reminders in Canada?

Mangomint's unlimited included texts are matched by GoRendezVous, which includes unlimited SMS reminders to Canadian mobile numbers on its published plans, and salonMonster includes SMS reminders in its flat CAD pricing. Square includes automatic text reminders from its free plan. ViteUneCoupe sends no texts at all, its reminders are email only. Check the texting line before comparing subscription prices; it moves the real total.

Does Mangomint charge commission on bookings?

No. Mangomint charges no commission on your appointments and runs no consumer marketplace. The same is true of ViteUneCoupe, Square Appointments, salonMonster and GoRendezVous. The costs to compare are subscriptions, per-user fees, currency conversion, texting terms and payment processing rates.
