Mangomint alternatives: the real math for US hair salons in 2026

Written by Published on 13 min read
A hair salon owner reviews software subscription costs on a laptop at her reception desk while a stylist works on a client's hair in the background

Ask around in American salon owner groups and you will struggle to find anyone who dislikes Mangomint. The software is fast, the design is clean, the support gets praised by name, and unlimited text and email reminders are simply included. The complaints are almost never about the product. They are about the invoice: $120 a month per location plus $10 for every user, before a single add-on, is a serious line item for a salon that mostly needs a calendar, reminders and client records.

This comparison runs on the blog of ViteUneCoupe, a free booking system for hair salons that never charges commission, so read us knowing where we stand. Our promise in exchange: every price below was checked in October 2026 on each vendor's own pricing page, we start by conceding what Mangomint genuinely does better than anyone, including us, and we tell you plainly when a cheaper tool means giving something up.

One more reason this article exists: several of the pages currently ranking for "Mangomint alternatives" still quote a tier model Mangomint no longer advertises. The numbers below are the current ones, from mangomint.com itself.

What Mangomint genuinely does well

Credit where it is due, because the list is real:

  • The user experience is the best in the category. Owners who switch consistently describe Mangomint as the one salon platform that does not feel like fighting the software. Express Booking, the smart calendar and the automation flows are genuinely well designed.
  • Unlimited text and email confirmations and reminders are included at no additional cost. That comes straight from Mangomint's own pricing FAQ, checked in October 2026, and it is a bigger deal than it sounds: most US competitors meter texts, cap them by plan, or sell them back as credits. With Mangomint, appointment communication is simply part of the subscription.
  • No contracts, cancel anytime, and your data stays exportable. Mangomint states this plainly, offers a free trial, and includes free onboarding and data migration.
  • Transparent processing. Card payments run at 2.45% + $0.15 in person and 2.90% + $0.30 online, checked in October 2026, which is at the competitive end for integrated salon payments.
  • A strong independent reputation. Mangomint is the rare vendor that tops user-review rankings without buying its way there, and its support consistently gets named as a reason people stay.

If that were the whole story, this article would be short. The whole story includes the bill.

What Mangomint actually costs a hair salon

Checked on Mangomint's pricing page in October 2026:

Item Price
Base subscription $120/month per location
Each user $10/month
Phone line with calls and texting (add-on) $70/month per line
Marketing credits (add-on) From $30/month (3,500 credits) up to $300/month (60,000 credits)
Payroll processing (add-on) $50/month + $8 per worker
Card processing 2.45% + $0.15 in person; 2.90% + $0.30 online

No commission on bookings, no contract, free trial.

Now the illustration, and it is only an illustration: a salon with an owner and three stylists, all needing logins, pays $120 + $40 = $160 a month, or $1,920 a year, before payments processing and before any add-on. Add the phone line and the entry marketing pack and you are at $260 a month, over $3,100 a year. For an established six-chair salon running memberships, retail and a busy front desk, that can be money well spent. For a two-chair salon that needs online booking, reminders and a client file, it is a premium subscription where most of the premium goes unused.

That is the honest framing of the "is Mangomint worth it" question: the software is rarely the problem, the fit is. We wrote a whole guide on the real cost of salon software if you want the full method for adding up subscriptions, per-user fees, metered messages and processing.

Who Mangomint fits, and who is overpaying

Mangomint earns its price in salons that actually use the depth: multiple stylists with different schedules and permissions, rooms and resources to juggle, memberships and packages, serious retail, integrated payroll, a front desk that lives in the software all day. Spread $160 or $200 a month across six busy chairs and it is a rounding error against the time it saves.

Mangomint is likely the wrong size for:

  • Solo stylists and booth renters. The $120 base is per location, so one person pays $130 a month for a calendar they could run on tools costing a fraction of that, or nothing. If you rent a chair or a studio, our guide to booking software for salon suites and booth renters covers the solo-sized options.
  • Small salons of one to three chairs whose real needs are online booking, automatic reminders and client records. Every tool in the next section covers that for under $90 a month, and two of them cover it for $0.
  • Anyone allergic to add-on math. The base price is honest, but a salon that wants the phone line, marketing and payroll is budgeting $300 or more a month. Nothing hidden, just a lot.

Details below, starting with our own product so the bias is on the table.

ViteUneCoupe: free, 0% commission, and honest about the texting gap

ViteUneCoupe's free plan gives a hair salon unlimited online bookings with 0% commission permanently, a personalized booking page in your salon's name, a service catalog with photos, prices and durations, staff schedules, a client database and the calendar to run it all. It is a plan, not a trial: no card, no expiry. Client phone numbers in +1 format store normally.

The Standard plan, from 29 € excluding tax per month with no commitment, adds the automatic emails (booking confirmation, a reminder before the appointment, a thank-you after) and ICS calendar sync with Google Calendar, Apple Calendar or Outlook. An anti no-show protection by bank card hold is coming soon in a Standard + Anti No-Show plan at 49 € excluding tax per month.

Now the contrast that matters most in a Mangomint comparison, stated as bluntly as we can: Mangomint includes unlimited text and email reminders; ViteUneCoupe's reminders are email only, there are no text messages on any plan. If text reminders are non-negotiable for your salon, we are the wrong tool, and our guide to appointment reminders for US hair salons explains honestly when email is enough and when it is not. Two more limits: the subscription is billed in euros, not dollars. US credit and debit cards pay euro invoices without drama, though your bank may add a small foreign transaction fee, but if you want a US-dollar invoice from a US vendor, GlossGenius or Square fit that requirement better. And ViteUneCoupe does not touch payments at all: no card on file, no deposits, no point of sale, so you keep whatever terminal you already use.

Who is it for? The salon whose Mangomint doubt is purely about price: if what you would actually use is the booking page, the calendar, the client records and reminders, you can get the first three free and the reminders by email for 29 € a month, instead of $130 or more.

GlossGenius: the polished mid-priced pick

GlossGenius is the most common head-to-head with Mangomint for smaller teams, and the search "Mangomint vs GlossGenius" mostly comes down to depth versus price. Checked on glossgenius.com in October 2026: Standard at $28 a month, Gold at $56 (up to 9 staff), Platinum at $168, each cheaper billed annually, a 14-day trial without a card, flat 2.6% processing on every transaction type, and a free data transfer in.

Against Mangomint: a solo stylist pays $28 instead of $130, and a small team pays $56 instead of $150 or more. What you give up is Mangomint's operational depth: GlossGenius is mobile-first and lighter on front-desk workflows, resource management and automations, and marketing texts draw on plan credits rather than being unlimited. Add-ons exist here too (payroll at $40 a month plus $6 per seat, a reception phone service at $50 a month, checked in October 2026). Our full breakdown is in the guide to GlossGenius alternatives for US hair salons.

Who is it for? Solo stylists and small teams who want a branded, paid, polished experience at a quarter of Mangomint's price and will not miss the enterprise features.

Square Appointments: the free plan with real muscle

Checked on Square's Appointments pricing in October 2026: a genuinely free plan for individuals that includes the booking site, automatic text and email reminders, and integrated payments, then Plus at $49 and Premium at $149 per month per location for multi-staff features, cancellation policies and no-show protection, each with a 30-day trial and no contract. Processing starts around 2.6% + 15¢ in person on the free plan.

Against Mangomint: Square's free tier does for $0 what many small salons were considering Mangomint for, and even Plus at $49 undercuts the Mangomint base by $71 a month. The trade-off is that Square is a payments company first: the salon-specific layer is thinner, the booking experience more generic, and deep salon workflows are not the point. We compare it in detail in Square Appointments alternatives for US hair salons.

Who is it for? Salons already on Square hardware, and solo stylists who want free scheduling with texts and integrated payments in one account.

Vagaro: the budget all-rounder with a marketplace

Checked on vagaro.com in October 2026: $23.99 a month for one bookable calendar, plus $10 per additional calendar up to seven, after which further calendars are free, with a 30-day trial and month-to-month billing. One automated reminder per appointment (text, email or push) is included; additional automated reminders require a paid add-on. Vagaro also runs a consumer marketplace that can put your salon in front of new clients, with no commission on bookings.

Against Mangomint: a four-calendar salon pays about $54 a month instead of $160 or more, and gets marketplace exposure Mangomint deliberately does not offer. The trade-offs are an older, busier interface and an add-on culture of its own: forms, websites, text marketing and more are separate lines, which is exactly the habit to watch, as we detail in our Vagaro alternatives guide.

Who is it for? Price-conscious teams of two to seven who want an all-in-one with discovery built in and will keep an eye on the add-ons.

DaySmart Salon: the long-running mid-market option

Checked on daysmart.com in October 2026: Basic at $29 a month for one user with 500 texts a month, Deluxe at $69 for three users and 1,000 texts, Deluxe Growth at $149, Premium at $199 for six users and 2,500 texts, with extra users at $9 a month on the higher tiers and a two-week trial. DaySmart has run salon software for decades (many owners remember it as Salon Iris) and covers scheduling, POS, marketing and reporting.

Against Mangomint: the entry price is a quarter of Mangomint's, and the feature list on paper is long. The texture is different though: text messages are capped by plan rather than unlimited, reminders draw from those caps, the interface shows its age next to Mangomint's, and processing is quote-based rather than published. DaySmart is also private-equity owned and has been growing by acquisition, which some owners read as a plus and others as a flag.

Who is it for? Salons that want a traditional full-suite system at mid-market prices and can live within text caps.

How to choose by salon profile

  • Solo stylist or booth renter: start free. Square's free plan if you want integrated payments and text reminders; ViteUneCoupe's free plan if you want unlimited direct bookings with 0% commission and keep your current payment setup. Paying $130 a month solo needs a very specific justification.
  • Two to four chairs, core needs only: ViteUneCoupe (free, or 29 € a month with email reminders), GlossGenius Gold at $56, or Vagaro at roughly $44 to $54 all cover booking, reminders and client records for a third of Mangomint's price or less.
  • Five or more chairs with a real front desk, retail and memberships: this is Mangomint's home turf, and it is fair to say it wins it. Compare it against Boulevard and the quote-only heavyweights before signing; our Phorest alternatives guide covers that end of the market.
  • Whatever you pick, test the exit before the entrance: confirm in writing that clients, appointment history and notes export freely. Mangomint, to its credit, says plainly that your data remains yours. Our guide to switching salon booking software walks through the migration step by step.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Mangomint cost per month?

Checked on mangomint.com in October 2026: $120 per month per location plus $10 per user, with no contracts and a free trial. Add-ons are separate: a phone line with texting at $70 a month, marketing credits from $30 a month, payroll at $50 a month plus $8 per worker. Card processing runs 2.45% + $0.15 in person.

Does Mangomint have a free plan?

No. Mangomint offers a free trial, then paid subscriptions from $120 a month per location. If you want a permanently free plan, Square Appointments (for individuals) and ViteUneCoupe both offer one, checked in October 2026.

Is Mangomint worth it for a small hair salon?

It depends on usage, not quality. Mangomint's strength is operational depth: front-desk workflows, automations, memberships, resources. A salon of one to three chairs that mainly needs online booking, reminders and client records can get that for $0 to $56 a month elsewhere, so the Mangomint premium only pays off if you will genuinely use the rest.

Mangomint vs GlossGenius: which is better for a hair salon?

Checked in October 2026: GlossGenius starts at $28 a month (Gold at $56 for up to 9 staff) with flat 2.6% processing and a mobile-first design suited to solos and small teams. Mangomint costs $120 a month plus $10 per user with deeper front-desk, automation and resource features plus unlimited included texts. Small team on a budget: GlossGenius. Established multi-stylist operation: Mangomint.

Do any Mangomint alternatives include unlimited text reminders?

Mangomint's unlimited included texts are genuinely unusual. Square includes automated text reminders even on its free plan; Vagaro includes one automated reminder per appointment; GlossGenius and DaySmart meter texts by plan credits or caps; ViteUneCoupe sends no texts at all, its reminders are email only. Check the texting line before you compare subscription prices, it moves the real total.

Does Mangomint charge commission on bookings?

No. Mangomint, GlossGenius, Square, Vagaro, DaySmart and ViteUneCoupe all charge 0% commission on your appointments. The costs to compare are subscriptions, per-user fees, metered messages and payment processing.
