Fresha alternatives for hair salons in Malaysia: the realistic 2026 shortlist
Type "Fresha alternatives" into Google from Kuala Lumpur and the results are written for someone else. The big listicles recommend Vagaro, Booksy, GlossGenius and Square Appointments, none of which you can actually sign up for in Malaysia, and the pages that do mention Malaysia are mostly published by one local vendor ranking itself first. Meanwhile the reasons a Malaysian salon owner is searching in the first place are concrete: Fresha's free-forever plan is gone, its pricing page showed us euros rather than ringgit, its WhatsApp messages are metered, and its marketplace new-client fee has fine print worth reading twice.
So this article does one job: list the alternatives a hair salon in Malaysia can genuinely use, with prices checked on each vendor's own site in October 2026 and the currency each page actually displayed. Full disclosure first: it is published on the blog of ViteUneCoupe, a free booking system for hair salons with no commission, so we are a candidate on our own list. We compensate the only way that works: sources, dates, and our own product's Malaysian limits stated before its strengths. For the full vendor-by-vendor market review beyond the Fresha question, our comparison of hair salon booking software in Malaysia goes deeper on each tool.
Why Malaysian salons are looking for a Fresha alternative
Fresha remains a polished product with a real Malaysian presence: its consumer marketplace listed 199 hair salons across Malaysia, with RM prices, when we checked in October 2026. The search for alternatives is not about the software being bad. It is about four structural changes in what it costs.
The free plan is gone. Fresha built its name as "subscription-free" salon software. That era ended: Fresha's pricing page, checked in October 2026, sells an Independent plan and a per-team-member Team plan with a 7-day trial. If you joined for the free calendar, the deal you joined for no longer exists.
The price it quotes you may not be in ringgit. The same pricing page geo-localises by visitor. Checked from Europe in October 2026, it showed us 14.95 € per month for Independent and 9.95 € per bookable team member for Team, and we could not retrieve an RM grid at all. Any ringgit figure you read in a listicle is someone's conversion, not Fresha's published Malaysian price. Open the page from your own salon, note what you are actually shown, and get it in writing.
Messages are metered. The pricing grid served to us in October 2026 included 20 free texts or WhatsApp messages a month, then roughly 0.10 € per text and 0.09 € to 0.23 € per WhatsApp message. In WhatsApp-first Malaysia, a salon sending a confirmation plus a reminder per appointment exhausts 20 messages in the first two days of the month, and every message after that is a line on the bill. Which reminder channel is worth paying for at all is its own question, covered in our guide to appointment reminders for Malaysian hair salons.
The marketplace new-client fee has two clauses you must read together. Fresha's pricing page, as served to us in October 2026, displayed the marketplace new-client fee line as "Free", while its help centre article on marketplace new-client fees, checked the same month, documents a one-time fee on a brand-new client's first completed booking, with a minimum for low-value appointments and a cap for higher-value ones, never charged on returning clients, and states no rate. Whatever the current Malaysian rate turns out to be, two clauses from Fresha's own help pages define its reach, and fairness requires quoting both. First, the fee's scope is wider than the marketplace button: it covers clients who book through your marketplace profile "as well as those who view your Fresha marketplace profile first and then choose to book through another online channel including your website or social media pages". Second, it has a documented exit: per Fresha's help article on adding a book button to your website, your booking links are unique links that send clients straight to your booking page, do not display other businesses, and bookings made through them do not incur the new-client fee. So a disciplined salon that shares only its unique links can largely stay out of the fee's path; a salon whose clients browse the marketplace cannot. The full economics of that trade-off, including why you must import your client list before going live, are in our analysis of direct bookings versus marketplaces for Malaysian hair salons.
One more structural point before the alternatives: Fresha's model leans on usage. Payment processing (shown to us at 1.29 % plus 0.15 € online and 0.59 % plus 0.15 € in person, in euros, October 2026), metered messages and the marketplace fee all grow with your activity, and per the help centre, unlisting your marketplace profile "will disable all your online booking channels". The subscription is only the opening line of the bill, which is exactly the lens our breakdown of the real cost of salon software in Malaysia applies across every vendor.
What Fresha still does better than most alternatives
Honesty cuts both ways, so before the list: Fresha's interface is genuinely polished and fast on a phone; its Malaysian marketplace, small as 199 hair salons is for a whole country, is a discovery channel most alternatives simply do not have; it supports upfront payments and cancellation fees today, which is real no-show protection; and it is a large, funded company that will exist next year. If those four things are what you value most and your written Malaysian terms turn out acceptable, staying is a defensible choice. The rest of this article is for everyone else.
The famous alternatives you cannot use in Malaysia
Clear these off your shortlist first, because the global listicles will not. Checked in October 2026 on each vendor's own site: Square Appointments depends on Square's payments, and Square's own availability page names eight supported countries, Malaysia not among them. Booksy, Vagaro and GlossGenius list no Malaysian edition among the markets on their own sites either. Any "best Fresha alternatives" page that recommends them to a salon in Shah Alam or Ipoh was written for another country and never checked.
The alternatives a Malaysian hair salon can actually use
Every price below was checked in October 2026 on the vendor's own website, with the currency that page displayed. Prices change: confirm before signing.

| bookit (LaunchIt) | Basic RM41/month or RM488/year; Advance RM588/year; Team RM688/year | 0 % | WhatsApp, automatic (yearly allowance) |
| TunaiPro | "From RM2.30/day", full grid by demo only | 0 % | WhatsApp, automatic |

ViteUneCoupe: the free, commission-free replacement, limits first
Since we are on our own list, the limits come before the pitch. Reminders go by email only: no WhatsApp and no SMS, on any plan, which in Malaysia is a real gap. The honest floor is the automatic email plus the appointment landing in the client's own phone calendar with its native alert, and a personal WhatsApp from the salon phone for colour blocks, regulars and known forgetters. Billing is in euros, not ringgit: the RM equivalent of the paid plan moves with the exchange rate and your card may add a small foreign-currency fee, though the free plan involves no invoice in any currency. And no money passes through it: no deposit collection, no FPX or DuitNow integration, no automatic cancellation charges, no POS, no e-Invoice submission.
What it replaces from Fresha, free and permanently: unlimited online bookings with 0 % commission, a personalised booking page (your prices typed in RM exactly as you write them), your services catalogue, staff schedules, a searchable client database where +60 numbers work normally, and your calendar. No card at sign-up, no trial countdown, no booking cap, and your client list is exportable when you want it. There is also no marketplace: nobody discovers your salon through us, and no fee ever attaches to a client who does. The Standard plan, from 29 € excluding tax per month with no commitment, adds automatic confirmation, reminder and thank-you emails plus ICS calendar sync with Google, Apple or Outlook. Bank-card no-show protection is coming soon in a Standard + Anti No-Show plan at 49 € excluding tax per month; it is not available today. Whether a free plan or a paid local suite fits your salon better is exactly the question our guide to free versus paid salon booking software in Malaysia walks through.
Pick it to replace Fresha if what you used was the calendar, the booking page and the client list, you never relied on the marketplace, and you accept email reminders in exchange for a bill of exactly zero.
bookit by LaunchIt: published RM prices and automatic WhatsApp
bookit is the local tool that publishes what Fresha's geo-localised page would not show us: a plain RM grid. Checked on launchit.my's pricing page in October 2026: Basic at RM41 a month or RM488 a year, Advance at RM588 a year (adding POS, packages and deposits), Team at RM688 a year for up to 6 staff, all with a 7-day trial, no card needed. WhatsApp confirmations and reminders are automatic, within a published yearly message allowance, and the suite handles LHDN MyInvois e-invoicing. It replaces the two things Malaysian salons most often say they will miss from Fresha, automated WhatsApp and a tidy all-in-one, at a price typed in ringgit, which is a genuine point in its favour.
Pick it to replace Fresha if automatic WhatsApp reminders and RM billing are your non-negotiables and you want POS and e-invoice in the same box.
TunaiPro: the demo-priced WhatsApp heavyweight
TunaiPro (tunaipos.com, checked October 2026) advertises "from RM2.30/day" with no setup fee and publishes no full grid: pricing scales with outlets and features, and the next step is a demo. The feature set is the deep end of the local market: automatic WhatsApp reminders, confirmations and even receipts, tiered stylist commissions, package tracking and LHDN e-Invoice auto-submission. The homework is the same as for any demo-priced tool: total first-year cost for your exact headcount, renewal price and a test client-data export, in writing, before the demo charm settles.
Pick it to replace Fresha if you run multiple staff or outlets and want WhatsApp automation and commissions handled deeply enough to justify negotiating a price.
LABÉAU: the premium suite at a suite price
LABÉAU (labeaupos.com, checked October 2026) prices Silver at RM174.92 a month on a 12-month plan (RM2,099 a year), Gold at RM274.92 and Diamond at RM598.98 for multi-location, with 7-day trials. Automatic WhatsApp reminders, POS, inventory, staff KPIs and LHDN e-invoicing are all in. It costs roughly four times bookit's entry plan, so it earns its keep only if you will actually use the depth; note also that LABÉAU publishes its own comparison listicles on which it naturally shines, so read its pages, like ours, as a vendor talking.
Pick it to replace Fresha if you want one polished system for a busy or multi-branch salon and can commit to a year.
Zyms: lowest monthly equivalent, years prepaid
Zyms (zyms.my, checked October 2026) sells Standard at RM1,500 and Pro at RM2,288 for five years paid upfront (1 and 2-year terms also exist), which works out at RM25 and RM38.13 a month. The catch sits in plain sight: the WhatsApp automation that makes it a Fresha replacement lives in the Pro tier only, and the attractive monthly figure requires trusting one vendor with years of your salon's life today. Coming from Fresha's no-commitment subscription, that is the exact opposite contract shape.
Pick it to replace Fresha if you are cost-driven, confident in the vendor, and comfortable prepaying years for the cheapest full suite.
BookingLah: the RM25 minimalist
BookingLah (mybookinglah.com, checked October 2026) is pure booking: a free plan capped at 20 bookings a month and 3 services, and a Pro plan at RM25 a month with unlimited bookings. Email reminders are automatic; WhatsApp reminders are one-tap manual, pre-written in the client's language (the interface runs in Bahasa Melayu, English and Chinese) and sent from your own phone, which costs nothing but means someone taps for every appointment. The free tier's 20-booking cap is a test drive, not a home: a working chair passes it in under a week.
Pick it to replace Fresha if you are a solo stylist who wants the smallest possible RM-billed bill and does not mind manual WhatsApp taps.
KiraPOS and Aoikumo: the quote-and-contract end
KiraPOS (kirapos.my, checked October 2026) now publishes a grid: Starter at RM99 a month for one outlet and Growth at RM199 for multiple, with salon-specific commission tracking and SST-ready receipts; have the demo show you reminder automation live rather than assuming it. Aoikumo (aoikumo.com, checked October 2026), headquartered in Petaling Jaya, prices its GROW plan at RM2,680 a year prepaid per outlet (a monthly option showed RM298), with reminders over WhatsApp, SMS and email and LHDN e-invoicing; it is built for clinics and larger beauty chains as much as hair salons, so a single-chair salon is buying more platform than it needs. For both: get the total first-year cost, renewal price and a test data export in writing.
Pick one to replace Fresha if you are an established or multi-outlet salon that wants a heavier Malaysian platform and negotiates terms in writing anyway.
How to choose, by salon situation
You joined Fresha for the free plan. The free ground Fresha vacated is now held by two very different tools: ViteUneCoupe (unlimited bookings, 0 % commission, email reminders, no cap, euro-billed only if you ever upgrade) and BookingLah's capped free tier (RM-billed, 20 bookings a month). Try both with real clients; neither asks for a card.
You stayed for the WhatsApp reminders. Then your replacement is a local paid tool: bookit from RM488 a year with published prices, TunaiPro by demo, LABÉAU at suite prices, or Zyms Pro if prepaying years suits you. All bill in RM and automate the channel Fresha meters.
You used Fresha as your POS and tax system too. Shortlist the suites (bookit Advance, TunaiPro, LABÉAU, KiraPOS, Aoikumo) and make each demonstrate a live MyInvois e-invoice submission during the trial, because vendors contest each other's claims on exactly this point.
You relied on the marketplace for new faces. Be honest about the numbers before you move: count how many recent marketplace bookings were genuinely new clients rather than regulars routed through the app. If discovery is real where you are, the alternative is not another marketplace (none of the tools above has one of comparable size in Malaysia); it is building your own acquisition through your Google Business Profile, Instagram and referrals, with a commission-free booking link underneath.
Leaving Fresha without losing your client list
Keep the move boring. Export your client list and appointment history first, while your account is in good standing: your database, with every colour note and +60 number, is the asset the whole decision protects. Open the new booking page and test it with a real booking before anything else changes. Then swap the link everywhere at once, Google Business Profile, Instagram bio, WhatsApp auto-reply, and remember the structural detail from Fresha's own help centre: unlisting your marketplace profile disables all its online booking channels the same day, so the replacement link must be live first. Finally, run both calendars side by side through one full rebooking cycle, four to six weeks for most salons, so no colour client falls between systems. Time the move for a quiet stretch, never the weeks before Raya or Chinese New Year.
Frequently asked questions
Is Fresha still free in Malaysia?
No. Fresha ended its free-forever plan and sells subscriptions with a 7-day trial. Checked in October 2026, its pricing page geo-localised and showed us euro figures (14.95 € per month Independent, 9.95 € per bookable team member) rather than an RM grid, so confirm the ringgit price from your own salon and get it in writing.
How much is Fresha's marketplace new-client fee in Malaysia?
Fresha publishes no Malaysian rate. In October 2026 its pricing page, as served to us, showed the marketplace new-client fee as "Free", while its help centre documented the fee mechanics (one-time, on a new client's first completed booking, with a minimum and a cap, never on returning clients) without a number. Ask Fresha in writing for the current Malaysian rate, minimum and cap before listing, and import your full client list first.
Can I avoid Fresha's new-client fee by using my own booking link?
Fresha's own help pages, checked in October 2026, say bookings made through your unique booking links do not incur the new-client fee, and that the fee can apply when a client views your marketplace profile first and then books through another channel, including your own website or social media. Both clauses are Fresha's; which one catches a given booking depends on where the client actually started.
What is the best free alternative to Fresha for a Malaysian hair salon?
Two genuine free plans exist. ViteUneCoupe is free with unlimited online bookings, 0 % commission permanently, a booking page with RM prices, a client database and staff schedules; its trade-offs are email-only reminders and euro billing if you ever take the paid plan. BookingLah is Malaysian, RM-billed and free up to 20 bookings a month, which suits testing but not a full chair.
Which Fresha alternatives send automatic WhatsApp reminders in Malaysia?
Among tools verified on their own sites in October 2026: bookit, TunaiPro and LABÉAU advertise automatic WhatsApp reminders, Zyms reserves WhatsApp automation for its Pro tier, and Aoikumo lists WhatsApp among its reminder channels. BookingLah's WhatsApp is one-tap manual, and ViteUneCoupe sends email only.
Why are Booksy, Vagaro and Square not on this list?
Because a Malaysian salon cannot practically sign up for them. Square's own availability page lists eight supported countries without Malaysia, and Booksy, Vagaro and GlossGenius list no Malaysian market on their own sites, as checked in October 2026. Listicles recommending them to Malaysian salons have not checked availability.
