Timely alternatives for hair salons in Singapore: what you really get in 2026
Timely is one of the most respected names in hair salon software: built in New Zealand, loved in Australia and the UK, and polished by fifteen years of listening to salons. It also sells to Singapore. But the product a salon in Tampines or Tanjong Pagar actually receives is not the one the overseas reviews describe, because three of Timely's headline strengths, SMS reminders, integrated payments and local-currency billing, do not survive the trip here. If you are running Timely in Singapore, or shortlisting it, this article lays out exactly what you get, what you pay and in which currency, and which alternatives genuinely work from here.
Full disclosure first: this article is published on the blog of ViteUneCoupe, an online booking system for hair salons that is free and takes no commission. We are an interested party, so we compensate the only honest way: every claim below was checked on the vendor's own pages in October 2026, with the URL and the currency each page actually showed us, and we credit what Timely does well before we argue with it. For the whole market side by side, our comparison of hair salon booking software in Singapore covers every option that actually operates here.
What Timely offers a Singapore hair salon in 2026
Checked in October 2026 on Timely's official pricing page:
- Timely sells four plans, Base, Build, Elevate and Innovate, priced per bookable staff member per month. The visible price grid is rendered to match the visitor's country, and from our location no grid could be retrieved at all, but the page's own structured data lists its regional starting prices: NZ$42 for New Zealand, A$42 for Australia, £22 for Great Britain and Ireland, and US$26 per month for the United States, Europe, Canada and "Rest of world". Singapore appears nowhere by name, which places it in that last bucket: a Singapore salon starts at US$26 per bookable staff member, billed in US dollars.
- Part-time staff cost the same as full-time staff. Timely's own pricing FAQ says so verbatim: "Part-time staff members are currently charged at the same rate as full-time staff members." Your Saturday-only stylist is a full line on the invoice.
- No contracts. You pay month by month, can switch plans at any point and leave at any time. That is genuinely good practice and worth stating plainly.
- 14-day free trial, no credit card required.
The per-staff arithmetic, as a clearly hypothetical example rather than a quote: at the US$26 entry rate, a four-stylist salon pays around US$104 a month on the lowest plan, roughly US$1,250 a year, converted by your Singapore card every month at whatever rate and foreign-transaction fee your bank applies, and more on the higher plans. Our line-by-line breakdown of the real cost of salon software in Singapore shows how those meters and conversions add up across vendors.
The three things Timely loses between Dunedin and Singapore
This is the heart of the matter. Priced per staff member, Timely is sold as an all-in-one: calendar, SMS, payments, deposits, marketing. In Singapore, the all-in-one arrives with several pieces missing.
SMS does not deliver here. Since 31 January 2023, Singapore's SMS Sender ID Registry requires any organisation sending SMS with an alphanumeric sender ID to register it using a Singapore UEN, under IMDA's full SSIR regime. Timely's own help centre states that, as a foreign company, it cannot meet the registration requirements and that SMS sent from Timely is blocked in Singapore: no SMS reminders, no SMS campaigns, and Timely itself suggests switching those messages to email. Here is the trap for a comparison shopper: the pricing page's FAQ, checked the same day, answers "Is SMS included in my region?" with a short exclusion list, the UAE, Ghana, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, that does not mention Singapore at all. The pricing page implies SMS works; the dedicated help article tells you it does not. Read the help centre, not the plan grid. Our guide to appointment reminders for a hair salon in Singapore explains what the SSIR means for every channel, and which ones still work.
TimelyPay is not available in Singapore. Checked in October 2026 on Timely's payments page: "In-person payments are currently available in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, the Republic of Ireland, and the US. Online payments are currently available in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, the Republic of Ireland, the US, and most of the European Union." Singapore is not on either list. That does not just mean no card terminal: Timely's deposits and cancellation fees are collected through that same payment system, so Timely's no-show protection, one of its best features elsewhere, is not available to a Singapore salon. You keep your own NETS terminal and PayNow QR exactly as they are, and you protect your chairs the manual way; our playbook for reducing no-shows in a Singapore hair salon covers what works without card capture.
Billing in US dollars, with no published SGD grid. No SGD price appears anywhere on Timely's site, and the visible grid did not render for us at all. A Singapore salon budgets in a foreign currency, on a per-staff meter, from a page it cannot fully read. None of this is hidden or dishonest on Timely's part, but it is the opposite of the plain S$15 or S$12 per month the local vendors print.
Put together: a Singapore salon on Timely gets the calendar, online bookings, client records, email reminders and reporting, which are genuinely excellent, and pays per-staff, all-in-one prices in US dollars for them, minus the SMS and minus the payments. That mismatch between what is billed and what is usable is the real reason to read the rest of this page.
What Timely still does well, even here
Fair is fair, and three things survive the trip intact.
- It is a true hair salon specialist. The calendar understands processing times, the client records are built for colour history, and the interface is widely liked. Generic booking tools make you fight for that; Timely gives it to you on day one.
- Clean commercial terms. Month-by-month billing, switch or leave at any time, a real 14-day trial with no card. If you are already on Timely, those terms make testing an alternative alongside it cheap and low-risk.
- Email reminders still work. The SSIR blocks Timely's SMS, not its email, and Timely itself recommends moving client messages to email in Singapore. A Timely salon here is, in practice, running an email-reminder system, which is worth remembering when you compare prices below.
Timely alternatives a Singapore hair salon can actually use
Everything in this table was checked in October 2026 on each vendor's own site, with the currency it actually displayed. Two names to cross off first: Shortcuts has no Singapore edition and sells here only through a quote-only local reseller, and Booksy, Vagaro, Square Appointments, Mangomint and Phorest do not operate in Singapore at all; the detail is in our Singapore booking software comparison linked above, which eliminates them one by one at the source.

ViteUneCoupe: unlimited staff, S$0, and the same reminder channel Timely uses here
The structural difference first: ViteUneCoupe does not charge per staff member on any plan. The free plan includes unlimited online bookings with 0% commission permanently, a personalised booking page for your salon, your service catalogue, staff schedules for the whole team, your client database (+65 numbers work normally) and your calendar. No trial countdown, no card at sign-up, no marketplace between you and your clients: the booking link is yours, on your Google Business Profile, your Instagram bio and your voicemail.
Now the comparison that matters for an ex-Timely salon specifically. In Singapore, Timely is effectively an email-reminder system billed in US dollars per staff member; ViteUneCoupe is an email-reminder system with a free plan and unlimited staff. The Standard plan, from 29 € excluding tax per month with no commitment, adds the automatic emails (confirmation, reminder before the appointment, thank-you afterwards) and ICS calendar sync with Apple, Google or Outlook. Bank-card no-show protection is coming soon in a Standard + Anti No-Show plan at 49 € excluding tax per month; it is not available yet, and we will not pretend otherwise.
The honest limits: reminders are email only, no SMS and no WhatsApp, on any plan, in a market where WhatsApp is how many clients expect to hear from their salon; the subscription is billed in euros, not SGD, so the paid plan moves slightly with the exchange rate and your card may add a small foreign-currency fee (at 29 € a month the sums are small, but you should know before the first statement); the interface is in English and French; and there are no payments, no PayNow collection, no POS and no deposits. ViteUneCoupe manages appointments, not money. If the only Timely features you actually use in Singapore are the calendar, the booking page and the email reminders, this is the directly comparable core at a software bill of exactly zero.
Idle Booking: the local pick, and the only WhatsApp answer on this list
Idle Booking is Singapore-built, prices in plain SGD, and solves the exact problem that breaks Timely here: reminders go by WhatsApp, billed by Meta directly to your own number at roughly S$0.02 per message with no markup, which sidesteps the SSIR entirely. Checked in October 2026 on idlebooking.com's pricing page: a Solo plan at S$15 per month billed yearly (S$18 billed monthly) and a Grow plan at S$89 per month billed yearly (S$99 monthly) adding payroll, inventory, packages, memberships and marketing automation, with no commission, no contract and a 7-day trial. For the salon leaving Timely because the reminders went silent, this is the most direct functional replacement in Singapore. One caveat when you research them: Idle publishes "best software" rankings on its own site that place Idle first, so read those pages as marketing, the same way you should read this one as marketing with sources.
LovingBooking: S$12 per month, unlimited staff, email reminders
LovingBooking is the other Singapore-local option, and the cheapest verified SGD paid plan in any of our comparisons. Checked in October 2026 on lovingbooking.com's pricing page: a free plan with 1 staff member and 30 bookings a month, and a Plus plan at S$12 per month with unlimited staff, unlimited bookings, PayNow QR payments that go directly to you with zero transaction fees, and a custom booking domain, month to month, cancel anytime. Reminders are email only, like ours and like Timely's-in-Singapore. For a salon paying Timely per staff member in USD and using email reminders anyway, S$12 flat for unlimited staff is the bluntest possible counter-offer.
Fresha: the marketplace route, with homework attached
Fresha is the opposite trade from Timely: instead of a specialist tool with pieces missing, a marketplace giant whose Singapore consumer side genuinely works, with over a hundred hair salons listed in SGD. The software is now subscription-based per bookable team member after a 7-day trial, with metered messages (20 free texts or WhatsApp messages a month, then paid) and payment fees on top, and, awkwardly, its Singapore pricing page was offline when we checked in October 2026, returning an error while the global page showed us another country's euro grid, so no public SGD subscription figure could be verified. If marketplace visibility is why you would leave Timely, get Fresha's current Singapore rates and new-client fee terms in writing first; our full guide to Fresha alternatives for Singapore hair salons unpacks the fee mechanics and the record's contradictions.
Setmore: the cheap generalist, with the same two caveats as Timely
Setmore is generalist appointment software, not salon software. Checked in October 2026 on setmore.com's pricing page, in US dollars: free for up to 4 users with unlimited appointments and email reminders, and a Pro plan at US$5 per user per month billed annually that adds SMS reminders and two-way calendar sync. For a Singapore salon it carries Timely's two caveats in miniature: USD billing, and SMS that deserves the SSIR question in writing, "do your texts actually deliver to +65 numbers, under what registered sender ID?", before you pay for Pro. As a free booking link for a solo stylist it works; colour processing times and client history you will be modelling yourself, and the one-chair version of this whole decision has its own guide.
Leaving Timely without losing your client book
If the arithmetic points to a move, sequence it so no client falls between calendars. Export your client list and appointment history from Timely first and check the file opens cleanly; under the PDPA those records are your salon's responsibility whichever platform holds them, as our guide to client records and the PDPA for Singapore salons explains. Set up the new system, put the new booking link on your Google Business Profile, Instagram and website, and only then close the old account, keeping both calendars alive through one full colour cycle. Timely's month-by-month terms make that overlap cheap, which is one more thing to its credit. The full step-by-step, including what to do about future appointments already sitting in the old diary, is in our guide to switching salon booking software in Singapore.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Timely cost in Singapore?
Timely publishes no SGD prices. Its pricing page renders a grid matched to the visitor's country, and the page's own structured data, checked in October 2026, lists a "Rest of world" starting price of US$26 per month per bookable staff member; Singapore is not named as a region anywhere on the page. Billing is per bookable staff member across four plans (Base, Build, Elevate, Innovate), with part-time staff charged at the full rate, no contracts and a 14-day free trial.
Do Timely's SMS reminders work in Singapore?
No. Timely's own help centre states that, as a foreign company, it cannot meet the registration requirements of Singapore's SMS Sender ID Registry and that SMS sent from Timely is blocked in Singapore; Timely recommends switching client messages to email (checked in October 2026 on help.gettimely.com). Note that the pricing page's regional SMS FAQ does not mention Singapore in its exclusion list, so the help centre, not the plan grid, is the page to trust.
Can I take deposits or charge no-show fees with Timely in Singapore?
Not through Timely. Deposits and cancellation fees run through TimelyPay, and Timely's payments page, checked in October 2026, lists availability as Australia, New Zealand, the UK, the Republic of Ireland and the US for in-person payments, plus most of the EU for online payments. Singapore is on neither list, so a Singapore salon on Timely protects its chairs with reminders and policy rather than card capture.
What is the best Timely alternative for a hair salon in Singapore?
It depends on which gap hurts. If you left because SMS went silent, Idle Booking's WhatsApp reminders at about S$0.02 per message, billed in SGD, are the most direct replacement. If you were paying per staff member for a calendar and email reminders, ViteUneCoupe's free plan covers unlimited staff and bookings with 0% commission, and LovingBooking Plus is S$12 per month in SGD. If marketplace exposure is the goal, Fresha, with its Singapore rates confirmed in writing first.
Is Timely bad software?
No, and this page does not say so. Timely is an excellent hair salon specialist with clean month-by-month terms, and in Australia, New Zealand or the UK it is a strong choice. The Singapore problem is specific: SMS blocked under the SSIR, TimelyPay unavailable, and USD billing with no published SGD grid, so a Singapore salon pays all-in-one, per-staff prices for the subset of the product that works here.
