Fresha alternatives for hair salons in India: what you can verify in 2026

Type "Fresha alternatives" into Google from India and almost everything you get was written for somewhere else. The big listicles recommend Vagaro, Booksy, Square or GlossGenius, none of which you can actually buy from an Indian salon, and the India-specific pages are mostly vendors ranking themselves first. Meanwhile the questions an owner in Pune or Kochi actually has are concrete: is Fresha still free, what does its marketplace fee really cost in India, and which alternatives can I sign up for in rupees this afternoon?

This article answers those three questions with sources and dates, because the honest truth is that some of them cannot be fully answered from public pages, and we will say so rather than invent a number. Full disclosure first: this is the blog of ViteUneCoupe, which offers a free booking page for hair salons with 0% commission, so we are one of the alternatives below and not a neutral referee. Our compensation is method: every price was checked on the vendor's own site in October 2026, with the currency that page actually displayed to us named every time, and Fresha's genuine strengths stated plainly.

Is Fresha free in India in 2026?

No. Fresha ended its famous free-forever model and now sells subscriptions with a 7-day trial. Checked in October 2026, Fresha's pricing page geo-localised to our location and displayed euros: an Independent plan at 14.95 € per month for a one-person business, a Team plan at 9.95 € per bookable team member per month, and a custom Enterprise tier above that. We could not retrieve a rupee grid, so what an Indian salon pays Fresha per month is not publicly verifiable from where we sit: open the pricing page from your salon, or ask Fresha in writing, and keep the answer.

The subscription is also only the first line of the bill. The same page, same date, euro figures as displayed to us: 20 free texts or WhatsApp messages per month and then a metered per-message charge, 50 free marketing emails then about 0.02 € each, and payment processing at 1.29% plus 0.15 € per online transaction. A salon sending a confirmation plus a reminder for 200 appointments a month exhausts the free message allowance on day one. Whether and how Fresha's payment processing operates for Indian salons is another thing to confirm directly rather than assume. That usage-based shape of bill is exactly what our breakdown of the real cost of salon software in India teaches you to price before signing anything.

How big is Fresha's marketplace in India, really?

Fresha's consumer marketplace does operate in India, with rupee prices. Its own India hair salon directory, checked in October 2026, invited visitors to choose from 250 hair salons nationwide, spread across Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune, Hyderabad, Delhi, Chennai, Kochi, Jaipur and more. Hold that figure against the size of the country: 250 listed hair salons for all of India means that in most neighbourhoods, even in the metros, Fresha is not where your next client is browsing. The marketplace audience is Fresha's strongest card in London or Dubai; in India it is thin, which changes the whole value calculation. Why that matters so much for who owns your client relationship is the subject of our comparison of direct bookings versus marketplaces for Indian hair salons.

The marketplace new-client fee: three answers, all dated

The number one question about Fresha is what it charges when the marketplace brings you a new client, and the public record is genuinely contradictory. Here is everything we found, dated, so you can weigh it yourself:

  • Fresha's pricing page, checked in October 2026, listed the "one-time fee applied to brand new clients who discover your business via the Fresha marketplace" as free, with no percentage. That was the geo-localised page that showed us euros, so it may not be the grid an Indian salon sees.
  • Fresha's help centre, checked the same month: the marketplace new-client fees article documents a working fee in detail, charged once on a brand-new client's first completed appointment, with a minimum for low-value bookings and a cap for expensive ones, never charged on clients already in your list. It states no rate and points back to the pricing page, the very page that showed us "free".
  • Third-party reviews: The Salon Business's Fresha review, updated in February 2026, states the fee as 20% of the new client's first booking with a 6 dollar minimum.

We will not declare one of those the truth for India, because we could not verify an Indian rate on Fresha's own pages. A "free" line on a geo-localised page could be a promotion, a transition or simply another country's grid. The mechanical fix: before listing, ask Fresha in writing for the current Indian new-client fee, minimum and cap, and keep the reply.

Three clauses from that help centre article matter whatever the rate turns out to be. The fee can apply to a booking made on your own website or Instagram if the client viewed your Fresha marketplace profile first, because attribution follows the profile view, not the final button. Clients already imported into your list never trigger it, so import your full client list before the profile goes live, or a ten-year regular can be billed as "new". And unlisting your marketplace profile disables all of Fresha's online booking channels at once: the booking tool and the marketplace are one decision, not two.

What Fresha genuinely does well

An honest alternatives page concedes the strengths, so here they are. Fresha's product is genuinely polished: calendar, client records, point of sale and marketing in a fast, modern interface that few rivals match on a phone. Its marketplace, however thin in India, is real and shows rupee prices to consumers, which almost none of the alternatives below can claim. It supports upfront payments and cancellation fees today, which is ahead of us: ViteUneCoupe's bank-card no-show protection is still in preparation. And it is a large, funded company that will exist next year, a form of certainty some owners reasonably pay for.

The famous alternatives you cannot use in India

Most "best Fresha alternatives" articles are written for the US or UK, and an Indian owner can lose an evening on tools that will not take the business. As checked in October 2026: Square's own availability page lists the countries Square supports, and India is not among them, which rules out Square Appointments. Booksy, Vagaro and GlossGenius presented no Indian market on their own sites when we checked the same month. Setmore does work from India, but read its fine print before paying for reminders: Setmore's own SMS policy lists India (+91) among the countries its text reminders cannot reach, so Indian clients fall back to email anyway. Availability changes, so re-check before dismissing a tool, but the realistic Indian shortlist is much shorter than the global listicles suggest.

Fresha alternatives an Indian hair salon can actually use

Everything below was checked in October 2026 on each vendor's own site, with the currency that page showed us. Where a vendor publishes no price, we say "not published" rather than repeat a directory's guess, and "not documented" never means "unavailable": it means ask for it in writing.

Solution Price shown to us (October 2026) Commission Reminders
ViteUneCoupe Free plan; Standard from 29 € excl. tax/month, billed in euros 0%, always; no marketplace Email only, automatic
Salonist USD: free listing (50 appointments/month), then $59 / $109 / $179 per month 15% once on a marketplace new client's first visit WhatsApp and SMS from the Advance tier
MioSalon Tier names varied between our checks, no figures published States no commission, new or existing clients SMS credits bought in-app, email

SalonBoost ₹799 and ₹1,499 per month, in rupees Not advertised WhatsApp automation on the ₹1,499 plan
Bewtee Free plan (capped); Pro ₹4,700 for 6 months, ₹7,700 per year Not advertised Messaging capped on free, unlimited on Pro
Salonior Solo ₹5,000/year, Signature ₹15,000/year per location States 0%, your own Razorpay account Automated reminders included

ViteUneCoupe: the free plan, with its Indian limits stated first

The limits first, because for an Indian salon they are real. Reminders go by email only: no WhatsApp and no SMS, on any plan, in a market where clients live on WhatsApp. The paid plan is billed in euros, not rupees, so the ₹ equivalent moves with the exchange rate and your card may add a foreign-currency fee. The booking page's price badge is currently a €, so the practical workaround is to keep your ₹ rate card in the free-text service descriptions or on your printed menu. And there is no money machinery at all: no POS, no GST invoicing, no UPI, no deposits, no inventory, because ViteUneCoupe is booking software, not a salon management suite. The interface is in English and French, with no Hindi option.

What the free plan gives in exchange is precisely the ground Fresha vacated: unlimited online bookings with 0% commission permanently, a personalised booking page in your salon's name, your service catalogue, staff schedules, a client database with +91 numbers that is yours to export, and your calendar. No card at sign-up, no trial clock, no booking cap, and no marketplace sitting between you and your clients or listing competitors next to your prices. The Standard plan, from 29 € excluding tax per month with no commitment, adds automatic confirmation, reminder and thank-you emails plus ICS calendar sync; bank-card no-show protection is coming soon in a Standard + Anti No-Show plan at 49 € excluding tax per month. Until then, reminders and a visible cancellation policy are what cut no-shows in an Indian hair salon today.

Salonist: a published grid in dollars, with its own marketplace fee

Salonist is the closest structural match to Fresha on this list: software plus a marketplace, with a published grid. Checked on salonist.io's pricing page in October 2026, the page showed us US dollars: a free Marketplace Listing plan capped at 50 appointments a month, then Essential at $59, Advance at $109 and Expert at $179 per month, unlimited staff on every tier. WhatsApp and SMS reminders arrive at the Advance tier. Note the symmetry with the Fresha question you came here to escape: Salonist states a 15% one-time fee on a marketplace new client's first visit, with everything else commission-free. That is a plainly published structure rather than an ambiguous one, which counts for something, but it is the same kind of cost. We could not retrieve a rupee grid, so get your ₹ figure in writing.

MioSalon: salon-specific and commission-free, but ask for the number

MioSalon, built in India, is one of the most hair-salon-specific suites of the field: appointments, POS, GST-aware billing, inventory and marketing. Checked on miosalon.com's pricing page in October 2026, it showed named tiers (a free tier appeared on one of our checks, Standard and Premium on another, so the grid is clearly in motion) and an explicit promise of no commission for either new or existing clients, but published no price figures: its own FAQ says the price varies by country and points you inside the application, and SMS runs on credit packs bought in-app. None of that is a red flag, but it moves the work to you: get the first-year total, the SMS pack rates and the renewal price in one written quote.

Zylu: rupee-billed with the WhatsApp API included

Zylu is Indian-built and the most WhatsApp-forward option here: checked on zylu.co's pricing page in October 2026, it includes the official WhatsApp API in all plans rather than as an add-on, offers India a 14-day trial at ₹99, an optional done-for-you setup at ₹1,999 + GST, and a 14-day full-refund guarantee. The caveat is ours as much as theirs: the plan grid did not render price figures for us, so we will not repeat the directory numbers. The ₹99 trial is cheap enough to be the real test: load your services, send yourself a WhatsApp reminder, and get the plan price in writing before day 14. Zylu also publishes its own Fresha-alternatives ranking with itself on top; read that page, like this one, as a vendor talking.

SalonBoost, Bewtee and Salonior: the budget rupee tier

Three smaller Indian vendors publish actual rupee prices, which earns them a place here even if they are younger and less proven than the suites above. SalonBoost, checked on its own site in October 2026, sells at ₹799 per month (Essential) and ₹1,499 per month (AI Growth, with WhatsApp automation included); confirm the minimum billing term in writing, and note its comparison page is a self-ranking. Bewtee, checked the same month, has a free plan capped at 100 messages and 100 customers, then a Pro plan at ₹4,700 for six months or ₹7,700 per year. Salonior prices at ₹5,000 per year for a solo professional and ₹15,000 per year per location, states 0% commission, and has you plug in your own Razorpay account so payments never pass through it. With young vendors the questions that matter are longevity questions: ask each one how you export your client list, and what happens to your data if the company pivots or closes.

The quote-only suites: DINGG, Zenoti, Respark

Several serious Indian suites sell only by demo or custom quote, with no public price grid: DINGG and Respark for salons and chains, Zenoti for enterprise franchises whose pricing page is explicit that quotes are customised. Quote-only is a sales model, not a scam, but it shifts the work to you: get the first-year rupee total, the WhatsApp and SMS terms, the renewal price and a test client-data export in writing before you commit. Our comparison of hair salon booking software in India covers each of them, and the whole Indian field, vendor by vendor.

Leaving Fresha without losing your client list

If the maths points to a move, sequence it: export your client list and appointment history first, open the new booking page, then update the link on your Google Business Profile, Instagram bio and WhatsApp auto-reply before touching the old account. Remember the structural detail from Fresha's own help centre: unlisting the marketplace profile disables all its online booking channels the same moment, so have the replacement link live the same day, and run both systems through one full colour cycle so nobody falls between calendars. The step-by-step, including timing the move outside the Diwali-to-wedding rush, is in our guide to switching salon booking software in India, and if the real question is whether to pay for software at all, start with free vs paid salon booking software in India.

Frequently asked questions

Is Fresha free for hair salons in India?

No. Fresha ended its free plan and sells subscriptions with a 7-day trial. Checked in October 2026, its pricing page geo-localised and showed us euros (Independent 14.95 €/month, Team 9.95 € per team member/month) rather than a rupee grid, with metered messages and payment fees on top. The price an Indian salon actually pays can only be confirmed from India or from Fresha in writing.

How much is Fresha's marketplace new-client fee in India?

The public record is contradictory. In October 2026, Fresha's pricing page showed the fee as free, its help centre documented a one-time fee with a minimum and a cap but no rate, and a third-party review updated in February 2026 described 20% with a 6 dollar minimum. No Indian rate is verifiable on Fresha's own public pages, so ask in writing before listing, and import your full client list first: imported and returning clients are never charged.

What is the best free alternative to Fresha in India?

Depends on what "free" must include. ViteUneCoupe's free plan has unlimited online bookings, 0% commission and no trial clock, with email-only reminders and euro billing if you later upgrade. Salonist's free Marketplace Listing is capped at 50 appointments a month with a 15% fee on marketplace new clients. Bewtee's free plan caps messages and customer records. MioSalon showed a free tier on one of our October 2026 checks but not another, with no published limits either way: ask what, if anything, is free.

Which Fresha alternatives send WhatsApp reminders in India?

Among vendors checked in October 2026: Zylu includes the official WhatsApp API in all plans, Salonist unlocks WhatsApp at its Advance tier ($109/month as shown to us), and SalonBoost includes WhatsApp automation on its ₹1,499 plan. MioSalon sells SMS credits in-app. ViteUneCoupe sends email reminders only, on every plan, and says so upfront.

Why are Square, Booksy and Vagaro not real options for Indian salons?

Because you cannot practically buy them from India. Square's own availability page lists its supported countries and India is not one of them, and Booksy, Vagaro and GlossGenius presented no Indian market on their own sites when checked in October 2026. Setmore works from India, but its own SMS policy lists +91 among numbers its text reminders cannot reach.
